Here are five scholarship opportunities for 2023/2024 sessions that interested PhD students can apply to.

1. University of Glasgow Scholarship for PhD Students

The University of Glasgow 2023 Scholarship, also called the James McCune Smith Scholarships is a scholarship program for Black UK PhD students willing to take their PhD studies in any discipline at the University of Glasgow.

The scholarship provides a better experience through external mentors, leadership trainings, community building and development activities, placements and networking opportunities. The scholarship is, however, available to only UK students with Black backgrounds (Black African, Black Caribbean, Mixed White and Black Caribbean, Mixed White and Black African or other mixed backgrounds including Black African and Black Caribbean or Black Other).

Value

The Scholarship offers an estimated amount of £18,022 for all 2023 entries and fees for up to four years. This scholarship also offers PhD students a mentorship opportunity outside the university circles for the provision of a broader perspective and network. This is in addition to normal academic supervision.

There will also be various leadership trainings and community development activities. Candidates will also receive a six-month placement with an industry, government or non-governmental organization, or any other employer, to put their knowledge into practice.

Application instructions

The first step of applying for the University of Glasgow Scholarships for PhD students is to propose a research area and find a supervisor by looking at the research interests of the university staffs.

Once you pick a research area and supervisor, the next thing is to submit a completed Expression of Interest form so your application can be assisted. Then you proceed with the normal application process and submit your personal statement through the University’s Scholarship Portal. 2. Monash University 2023 Global Excellence and Mobility Scholarship for PhD Students

The Monash University GEM Scholarship Program is a scholarship program that aims to bring the best and outstanding students interested in taking their PhD research program at Monash University, Malaysia. This scholarship will allow them to work with some of the world’s top-class research teams on core challenges.

The scholarship is, however, open to only 15 international PhD students, and will fund their tuition for 39 months. Applicants must ensure to possess a minimum academic qualification of First Class Honors or its equivalent that is recognized by Monash University, Malaysia. They must also satisfy the English language proficiency requirements.

Value

The scholarship offers a 100% tuition fee for 3 years and 3 months. It also offers an RM2,800 stipend for 27 months in Malaysia and an AUD37,000 for 12 months in Australia. In addition to these benefits, the GEM Scholarship for PhD students covers travel expenses and initial costs of living in Australia.

Application Instructions

Interested applicants should submit their application through this application form. They are required to provide the following documents in the course of their registration online:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Research proposals for 2 preferred research topics
  • Certified true copies of Academic transcripts with grading scales
  • Personal statement (300 words)
  • Proof of English language proficiency

3. ICGEB 2023 Arturo Falaschi Fellowships for African PhD Students

The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology is offering a  scholarship to PhD students interested in obtaining their PhD degree in life sciences. The award will be awarded through different academic institutions of international standing. Such institutions include the Open University, UK,  Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, University of Cape Town, South Africa, and the International School for Advanced Studies (ISAS), Trieste.

The fellowship program offers a lot of benefits to selected outstanding students from African countries. Though the name of this scholarship mentions African students only, it is also open to students from a few selected countries such as Italy, India and United Kingdom. Candidates from Trieste, Italy must not be up to the age of 32 years at the time of application.

Value

The ICGEB Arturo Falaschi Scholarship for PhD students offers the following benefits to selected candidates:

  • Full tuition fees covering the entire PhD registration period
  • Monthly stipend: £1,300 for Italian (Trieste) candidates, $1,020 USD for Indian (New Delhi) students and ZAR14,000 for South African (Cape Town) students
  • Medical health insurance covering the total duration of the fellowship
  • Participation support for Meetings and Courses
  • Travel expenses

4. Google 2023 PhD Fellowship Program For PhD Students

The Google PhD fellowship is a scholarship opportunity for PhD students all over the world. The scholarship is open to the most promising young students worldwide, who are ready to stand for the future of research in various ICT fields. Selected students will other than the PhD fellowship, also have access to a Google Research Mentor.

Value

The fellowship offers a fully funded scholarship program to PhD students for 3 years. It offers a $15,000 per year stipend to cover the fellowship, research activities, and travel expenses. Candidates will also have access to the Google Research Mentorship program.

Application Instructions

The scholarship is open to technology-driven PhD students of all backgrounds. It is however not open to Google employees or their households. Students who are sponsored by a comparable industry are disqualified from applying for this scholarship as well.

5. University of Saskatchewan Canada Scholarships

The University of Saskatchewan, Canada is offering various scholarship programs for undergraduate, Masters and PhD students for the fall of 2023/2024. The Scholarship is expected to take admit many international students for the fall intake.
